Last Friday, communities across the country came together to recognize and celebrate Juneteenth, a day that marks an important moment in American history.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Today, Juneteenth serves as a time for reflection, education, celebration, and appreciation of the progress that has been made while recognizing the work that continues to build stronger communities for future generations.
One of the things that makes our communities special is the diversity of the people who call them home. Different backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and traditions help create vibrant neighborhoods where people can learn from one another and grow together.
As we reflect on Juneteenth, we're reminded that home is about more than just a house. It's about community, opportunity, and creating a place where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
We hope everyone had a meaningful Juneteenth and had the opportunity to spend time with family, friends, and their community.
Here's to continuing to build stronger neighborhoods and brighter futures together.
